Travel Deal for August 6, 2013
Montreal is known as one of the world’s leading festival cities, but its annual reggae fest always seems to fly under the radar.
That’s not the case this year. The 2013 Montreal International Reggae Fest features some of the biggest names in the genre, including headliner Shaggy, known for his 1990’s hit “Boombastic.” Shaggy has been a major reggae star ever since and will be at the top of a roster of performers that includes Yellowman, Kes the Band, Beenie Man, Mr. Vegas and more.
The festival, in its 10th year, runs from August 16-18 in Montreal’s Old Port. Tickets start at just $10 for admission on opening night, but the best option is to get a three-day pass for $90. That general-admission ticket gets you into all of the shows on what is one of the hottest weekends of the summer in Quebec.
To purchase tickets: Visit the the Reggae Fest website or telephone 1-514-790-1111 or 1-866-908-9090 (toll free). To find out full details visit the Montreal Reggae Fest tickets page.
Vacay.ca Goes Under the Covers in Montreal’s Old Port
Auberge du Vieux-Port is a beauty of a boutique hotel across from the grounds where the Montreal Reggae Fest will be held. The Old Port property was renovated in 2011, features a terrific pub, and a roof-top terrace with excellent views of the city and St. Lawrence River.
Vacay.ca Managing Editor Adrian Brijbassi stayed at Auberge du Vieux-Port in 2012 and was impressed by the property operated by the Antonopoulos Group.
Brijbassi writes: “Auberge du Vieux-Port has recently undergone a renovation that had seen it close for a few months. It has kept the original stone walls from the 1800s while adding a new restaurant called Taverne Gaspar, a friendly, casual-dining space with a happy bar staff. It serves a fine complimentary breakfast for hotel guests. Trendy Narcisse Restaurant is also on the premises.”
The hotel offers several packages that visitors to the reggae fest can take advantage of. See those offers on the hotel’s website.
