Travel Deal for July 29, 2013
There is luxury, there is ultra-luxury and then there are places like Azuridge, where opulence melts off the walls. The estate was formerly owned by millionaire Morgens Smed and has undergone a $5-million refurbishment that has brought glamour and style to the foothills south of Calgary.
Azuridge, in the town of Priddis, features a number of luxurious offers, including one where girlfriends are sure to delight in the deluxe or premium rooms with names like Amethyst, Pearl and Peridot.
The Girls Getaway package starts at $449 per person (based on double occupancy) and includes:
- One night in a deluxe or premium suite
- Complimentary welcome drink
- $75 credit for use in the Opal Dining Lounge
- Breakfast on the Azuridge patio.
Should you wish to splurge — and cause a fight over who gets to sleep in it — you can upgrade your room choice to the signature Rhodochrosite suite, with vaulted ceilings, Jacuzzi, balcony, dressing room, curved art-glass shower, and splendid views of the Rocky Mountains.

Calgary correspondent Jody Robbins got a taste of Azuridge earlier this year and attested to the remarkable transformation the estate has undergone as it transformed from a private mansion to a 27,000-square-foot boutique accommodation that has hosted the likes of Steven Spielberg.
Robbins writes: “This luxury destination nestled at the base of the foothills, a mere 20 minutes south of Calgary, is reminiscent of an English country house. Step into Sapphire Hall for your welcome cocktail or nip into Emerald Manor to relax fireside, peering out of floor-to-ceiling windows that frame stunning views of Alberta’s big sky and the 13 acres of rambling countryside on which the estate sits.”
