TORONTO, ONTARIO – Great news for tourists hoping to get out on the road this summer and help the environment at the same time.
The Chevrolet Bolt was named Overall Winner of the 2018 Canadian Green Car Award at the Green Living Show in Toronto. The Bolt was also named Overall Winner in 2017, marking it the first time in the Award’s six-year history that a vehicle has won back to back.
Green Living Show is Canada’s largest consumer show dedicated to simple solutions for leading a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. Laurie Simmonds, President and CEO of Green Living Enterprises, says the show offers everything you need to know to live green featuring everything from environmentally friendly cars to beauty products, home supplies and culinary treats on display. She says the awards program was inspired by a desire to see the greenest cars in the market recognized.
“The automotive journalists steering committee came to us and said that they would really like to see an awards program that really focused on the most environmentally friendly cars on the market,” said Simmonds. “So in every category, we know that peoples needs are different, and there is a solution in every category.”

The Canadian Green Car Award recognizes vehicles that combine impressive environmental attributes with strong mass-market appeal. The assessments included criteria, such as fuel consumption, emissions and price, as well as the judges’ evaluations of performance, driving experience, value, features and “green” qualities.

A panel of 12 of Canada’s top automotive journalists selected the Bolt, a groundbreaking electric vehicle with a 383-kilometre range, from among four category winners as the vehicle that best combines environmental benefits and mass-market appeal. The Award Steering Committee selected three nominees in each of the four categories, based on meeting essential “green” criteria related to technology type and fuel economy. The judges then evaluated the nominees, including test drives, data from manufacturers and their own experience. Those scores produced the four category winners announced today.
“Chevrolet is honoured to accept the Canadian Green Car Award for the third consecutive year”, said Ester Bucci, brand, product and technology communications manager at Chevrolet Canada in a statement. “This award reinforces Chevrolet’s commitment to offering an affordable, world-changing vehicle that delivers on the promise of an electric car for the masses.”
