Travel Deal for November 13, 2013

vicky vacay deal of the dayNorth America’s newest and largest aquarium has made a big splash since debuting in October. The lines are long and the jaws are slack as hundreds of visitors a day weave through the fun and educational attraction at the base of the CN Tower in Toronto.

The closest hotel to Ripley’s Aquarium is the InterContinental Toronto Centre on Front Street. The downtown hotel is attached to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and the covered Skywalk that leads you to within feet of the aquarium entrance — making it the ideal place to stay during those cold and stormy winter months.

The InterContinental is also taking advantage of the hot new attraction in town with its Be a Big Fish Package and its Ripley’s Aquarium Package.

The Be A Big Fish Package includes:

  • Accommodation in a King Feature Room for two adults or Double Feature Room for up to two adults and two children under 18 years old
  • Two adult entrance tickets at Ripley’s
  • $100 Spending Voucher at Azure Restaurant & Bar or Spa InterContinental
  • Pet fish in a bowl for guest room company or to take home.

The Ripley’s Aquarium Package includes:

  • One night’s accommodation
  • Two adult entrance tickets at Ripley’s
  • Buffet breakfast for two at Azure Restaurant & Bar (children 10 and under eat for free when accompanied by an adult). Dives Into Ripley’s on Opening Day Road Trips Columnist Terry O’Neill was among the first to enter Ripley’s Aquarium when it opened last month. She was stunned by the spectacular finds and enthralled with the many activities for kids and adults to enjoy.

O’Neill writes: “During my travels I have seen some magnificent aquariums, Chicago and Monte Carlo being two of my favourites — grand but certainly more traditional. My senses were not prepared for what was to come. The magnitude of colour and beauty turned more breathtaking around each corner of Toronto‘s newest attraction. ‘Ray Bay’ is a sheer wall of sting rays from floor to ceiling. With one of many, many carpeted ledges throughout, low enough for toddlers and inviting enough for this girl to just sit and be with them. I was mesmerized as the sting ray gathered in a pile right up to the glass where I sat. Enjoying the feeling, I looked up to see a little boy about two with his hands in the air quietly saying, ‘Wow.’ He put his face right on the glass as if to give it a giant hug.”
