Travel Deal for November 6, 2013
The Art Gallery of Alberta is not only one of the most fantastic buildings in its province, it is among Canada’s architectural gems. Designed by Randall Stout, the 85,000-square-foot facility features a 190-metre steel ribbon that will remind observers of the acclaimed work of Frank Gehry, Canada’s most noted architect.
Stout completed the gallery’s $88-million renovations in 2010 and the museum has won wide acclaim since its reopening. It houses 6,000 pieces of art on its three floors. Visitors to Edmonton have the opportunity to enjoy this attraction rich with culture and sophistication when they book a stay at the opulent Fairmont Hotel Macdonald.
With the Urban Arts, Style and Elegance Package, guests receive admission to the AGA as well as a shopping spree in downtown Edmonton.
The package starts at $209 per night and includes:
- One night accommodation
- One gift card redeemable at the Edmonton City Centre Mall
- Two passes to the Art Gallery of Alberta.
The package is available until December 31, 2013.
Vacay.ca Conquers the West Edmonton Mall
No visit to Alberta‘s capital is complete without a stop at Canada’s most fun-filled mall. The West Edmonton Mall has 800 shops, an indoor water park, ice rink, amusement park and aquarium. Vacay.ca Family Travel Columnist Jody Robbins recently made a stop with her daughter to see what the fuss was about.
Robbins writes: “With more than 30 million annual visitors, on any given day West Edmonton Mall has a population that would rank it as Alberta’s third-largest city. As winter and spring couldn’t agree whose turn it was, we decided to escape to Edmonton. Like any good mother, I’ve multi-tasked, combining a much-needed sanity break with introducing my daughter to the time-honoured tradition of conquering the mall.”
